The salt dough can also be made by the children: encourage the children to fill the cups using a teaspoon/table spoon. Children can also be encouraged to mix the dough using a tablespoon – be careful that the water is not too hot.
Ingredients for the Salt Dough:
- 1 cup salt
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- powder glitters – optional
In a bowl, mix the salt and the flour. Add the warm water in slowly and combine… should have the consistency of a dough. You can also add some glitters at this stage. Add a little water if it becomes dry, or a little flour if the dough is sticky.
- Once the dough is ready, roll it until about 1 cm thick.
- Press your child’s hand/feet in the center.
- Make a hole near the top of the dough – can use a straw.
- Carefully turn the salt-dough over, and write any information such as your child’s name, age, date… makes a great keepsake.
- Leave it to dry in the sun for a least 24 hrs.
- You can leave it as it is, or children can paint it, with paint.
- Leave it to dry again.
- Hang the ribbon and Enjoy.
