Carbon Footprint Activity

For this activity, you can first brainstorm and discuss what carbon footprint is with the children.

Basically carbon footprint is the amount of carbon dioxide or greenhouse gases that are produced as a result of our daily living.

You can then list some examples that lead to carbon footprint, so that the children would be able to better understand. Some examples include:

  • driving a car – burning of fuel
  • flying a plane – burning of fuel
  • wasting energy in our house e.g. keeping lights on
  • buying imported food – food that travels long distances
  • buying non-organic food – issue of pesticides
  • wasting water

On a paper, you can print your child’s footprint and together discuss on ways how you can reduce the carbon footprint, similar to the image below.

Some Eco-friendly points that you can discuss together:

  • carpooling
  • walking short distances instead of using the car
  • turning off lights
  • not wasting water
  • recycling paper, plastic bottles, metal cans
  • reusing recyclable materials for crafts
  • not wasting food
  • taking our reusable cloth bags when going shopping
  • avoiding single-use plastic

On the 22nd April, Earth day will be celebrated around the world. This year’s theme is about climate change. It is important that from a very young age, we teach our children how to help protect and restore our planet.

Remember, that our children are our future generation.

I will be posting different activities that you can do with your little ones, where they will be learning about recycling, carbon footprint. pollution and global warming.

Dear parents,

Given the fact that we can’t go out today, due to Covid-19, I will be posting some fun activities that you can play with your children. Hope that you will find these simple activities useful.

Egg and Spoon Race:

All you need for this activity is some plastic Easter eggs and spoons. You can race individually or in a relay-style.

Pin the Tail on the Bunny:

For this activity, you need a bunny and a tail template.

The three rules for this game are: Blindfold (or close eyes), spin around and try to place the tail on the bunny’s tush.

Below, you can find a bunny printable and a tail printable which you can use:

Hungry Bunny bean bag / ball toss:

First, you have to sketch a bunny on a piece of cardboard, and cut out a mouth and a tummy, similar to the image below:

To play, this game, one has to aim the beanbag or ball into the holes.

Instead of beanbags or balls, you can also create simple carrots using felt.

Toilet Paper Bunny Craft

  • Cut a toilet paper roll in half and stick both roll on top of each other.
  • Children can color/paint it in the way that they want too.
  • On a paper/cardboard, draw and cut two ears and two inner parts of the ears. Children can color/paint these too.
  • Cut out two bunny legs and stick them onto the bottom part of the body roll.
  • Glue googly eyes and draw facial details.
