Bird-feeder Craft

As part of the Earth Day celebration, you can also create a Bird-feeder with your little ones. You are encouraged to use recycled materials such as milk cartons to make this craft, so that children will learn that before they throw things away, these things might have another use, thus contributing to let things being thrown away.

Below, are some ideas of how you can do your bird feeder – let the children be creative! It is okay if their bird feeder do not look picture perfect – the most important thing is that children have fun doing the activity.

Looking forward to see the bird feeders that your little ones create.

Plastic Bottle planter

For this activity you need a large plastic bottle which you need to cut the top part. The children can fill the plastic bottle with some soil/compost (can use a tablespoon to transfer the soil into the bottle and can count how many tablespoons full of soil they added).

Once the children fill the bottle half way through, they can add some seeds such as sunflower seeds or ‘skalora’ and continue to fill the bottle with the remaining soil.

They can also decorate the plastic bottled using recycled stuff such as bottle taps.

Finally, the children need to water their plants and place them in the sun. The plants should start to grow in a few weeks time.
